Chesterton School Christmas Fayre – Friday 1st December – 3.15pm onwards!!
Cups/Bottle/Dress Down Day – Thursday 30th November
It is non-uniform day this Thursday. All we ask is that you bring the plastic cups, sent home with your child last week, filled with sweets/small toys for the Children’s Tombola stall and a bottle of something for the Adult Tombola.
Father Christmas is visiting us again this year and his Grotto will be near to Beech Class. We are lucky enough to also have our traditional Tea Room in Beech Class again this year - serving tea, coffee, hot chocolate, mince pies, cupcakes, cinnamon doughnuts and biscuits. There will also be a chocolate fountain!
Christmas BBQ
There will be a BBQ this year serving burgers, sausages and bacon butties near to Oak Class.
Craft Stall
This year, some of the parents and even a couple of the pupils have been making home-made crafts and decorations. Please visit this stall as there will be some amazing crafts available and I know the parents and children have worked hard to produce them. All proceeds to the SA.
Members of our choir will be performing some festive numbers at approximately 3.45pm. There may also be cameo appearances from some of our instrumental musicians.
Help Required
We still need helpers to help set up the fair and also to man the stalls on the day. If you are able to help, can you please email

Panto Performance – Rapunzel, Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th February
We are pleased to announce that Chesterton Panto Troupe will be entertaining us again this year with their Panto Performance - Rapunzel.
Each year, the actors and actresses put on an amazing performance full of fun and laughter and all the proceeds go to Chesterton School Association. This is one of the SA's main fundraisers of the year.
The Panto this year will be on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th February, so please put these dates in your diary. Tickets will be on sale in Jan/Feb of next year.
Your Panto Needs You !!
Chesterton Troupe are looking for any amateur dramatic parents/grandparents/neighbours to join them and perform in this year's production. There are a few smaller parts that need filling, so this would be a fantastic introduction to the panto.
If you are not into Am Dram, then do not worry as there are plenty of opportunities to help backstage with lightning, sound etc.
If you require any further information, please contact Clare Kavanagh, Director on

Bags2School – Tuesday 7th November
Please continue to fill your bags over the weekend, bring them in on Tuesday morning before the school drop off and leave in the school hall.

Committee Meeting – Friday 10th November
Our next committee meeting is on the above date, please come along after school. The meeting will be held in Beech Class.

Christmas Fayre – 1st December 3.30pm – Can you help?
The Christmas Fayre is in 4 weeks time and planning is underway. We have lots of fun stalls planned but, in order to run everything, we need parents/carers/grandparents to help with set up and running the stalls.
If more people volunteer to help, it will mean that we can have a rota system and then we can all enjoy the fayre with our children as well.
Mince Pies
Is anyone able to help with baking some mince pies? We only need about 30 in total to sell on the day.
If you are able to assist on a stall or help us with baking some mince pies, then please email
If you are not able to help on the day, then please consider contributing in some other way, be it a monetary donation or raffle prize etc.

Bag2School - Posted 18th Oct
Your child will be bringing home a bag from Bag2School, which is a company that specialises in good quality second hand clothing that can be re-used (please see below for a full list of what can be donated).
The School Association receives commission for every Kilo collected!
Last year we raised around £100 for the School just from recycling in this way.
The more we collect, the more we raise! So please ask any friends or relatives if they would like to contribute any unwanted items.
We have arranged to have a collection from school on Tuesday 7th November. Hopefully, this will give you plenty of time to have a clear out!! (Your bags should be dropped into the School Hall for 9am on Tuesday 7th November. Please do not bring them into school before this date as we are unable to store them).
Thank you for your continued support and if you would like more than one bag then please ask at the school office. Alternatively you can use black bin liners as long as they are securely fastened.

They will accept the following ‘good quality’ items for RE-USE:

Barton FlemingAre you thinking about selling your home?
If you are thinking of selling your home, would you consider using Barton Fleming estate agent? They are currently running a scheme whereby they will donate 10% of their commission fee on the sale of your home to our School Association. This scheme is eligible for parents but they have said they will extend it to grandparents and TAs/Teachers of the school. Barton Fleming fees are 1% inclusive of VAT.
If you decide to use them and sign a contract, all you have to do is name on the contract which school your child/grandchild attends and Barton Fleming will contact us with a cheque when the sale is complete. Recent examples have been where they have issued Bure Park school with several cheques in the region of £250-£300.
Find out more.

Cauliflower Christmas Cards!!
Your child has brought home their Christmas Card design; please support the School Association by purchasing cards or labels.
Last year parents raised £213.00 buying the designs which are of very good quality.
Please make your cheque payable to 'Chesterton School Association'.
The deadline to hand the design and payment back is this Friday 13th October.
I am afraid we cannot extend the deadline as Cauliflower Cards will be collecting the paperwork on Monday 16th October.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Posted 5th Sept: a message from Mr Horner
I would like to thank all the committee members for their hard work and dedication this year and extend my gratitude to all those willing helpers who have selflessly given up their time.
This academic year, it will be even more important for the School Association to continue fundraising due to a decrease in Government funding to schools. We will ensure that the money raised is invested back into the school for a range of educational purposes and resources, such as educational visits and computer equipment.
For us as a school community to succeed, your continued support will be required. Through attending events and helping to run and organise them we can raise funds together. We would be extremely grateful for more support from parents and would like to encourage you to attend the next AGM in October.
We hope you all have had a lovely time over the summer holiday and look forward to seeing you at a SA event soon.
July 2017 Update

Reminder – End of Term Party – Friday 14th July 6-8pm
Please can you hand your slips and money into the school office for the End of Term Party, the deadline to hand them in is this Friday.

Thank you from Annie Dallas regarding the money raised for Harefield Hospital.
I wanted to thank you all so much for supporting the school and myself in change the rules day and guess the time. I completed the nightrider London 100 k. It was an amazing experience and with your support the school raised £158.50, which is going towards fundraising for Harefield Hospital transplant ward
Thanks again

Summer Fayre 2017
Thank you for coming to support this year’s Summer Fayre. It was a fantastic day and luckily we all stayed dry as the weather cheered up. All of us except Mr Horner that is … he got a little bit soggy!
Thank you to everyone who helped run a stall. You did a great job and we could not have done it without you. Another huge thank you to all of the people that came early to help set up or stayed late to help pack away. Every offer of help was much appreciated.
There were lots of happy faces from the children enjoying themselves on the different stalls, including: Tin Can Alley, Teddy Bear/BFG Tombola, Penalty Shoot Out and much, much more.
An update on the amount raised will be added to the Totaliser on the School Association notice board and on the school website.
June 2017 Update

Summer Fayre – Saturday 1st July – 12-3pm

Plant Stall
We will be having a plant stall at this year’s summer fayre so if you have any spare plants, such as tomato plants etc, and you would like to donate to this stall, could you bring them in on Friday. It would be much appreciated.

'Beat the Goalie'
We are planning to run a 'Beat the Goalie' stall at Saturday's School Association Summer Fayre, but need some pupil goalies to take a turn between the sticks! Ideally, we would have a Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 on duty throughout the fayre, so that our entrants get to shoot against someone roughly the same age. If your son/daughter would like to help out and is able to attend the fayre, please reply to this e-mail or ask them to let me know. We won't ask them to spend more than an hour helping out, so they can still enjoy exploring the fayre themselves. There will be an adult supervising the stall. Please indicate if they have a preference for time (eg. 12-1) or whether they are flexible. If I have lots of volunteers (fingers crossed!), I'll try to draw up a rota that gives everyone a chance to take a turn. If you have any questions, please ask. Kind regards, Mr Horner

100 Club
Come and join the 100 Club at the Summer Fayre on Saturday. There are 100 numbers available at £15 each and 6 prize draws throughout the year. Prizes of £50, £30 and £20 to be won every time! Buy as many tickets as you like and if you have a favourite or lucky number, make it yours on Saturday - don't miss out! Download the poster

Helpers Needed
We still require helpers to run some stalls, please email the school office if you are able to help or we will have to restrict the number of stalls on the day which will be a shame as a lot of work has gone into organising the fayre.
Raffle Tickets – each family was sent some raffle tickets home in the youngest child's book bag. Could you please try and sell each strip for £1 and hand the money back into the school office along with the 2nd strip. We have some fabulous prizes again this year.
Beat the Goalie Update – for the 1st hour Mr Horner will be going in goal for everyone to try and beat – come along and see if you can get a few balls past him. Terry from Soccalife will be with us from 1pm so you can keep trying to score. Yours Chesterton School Association

This Friday 9th June at 3.30pm is our last committee meeting for this academic year. The meeting will be held in Beech Class, please feel free to join us.
May 2017 Update

Change the Rules Day – Friday 26th May
FOR ONE DAY ONLY, with Mr Horner's and the teachers' full permission, the School Association invites you to change the rules in support of a brilliant charity that saves peoples’ lives.
Edward Dallas’ mum is cycling 100k/63 miles overnight in June to raise money for the lung and heart transplant unit at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS trust where she works. This hospital gives people whose hearts and lungs don’t work properly new ones to help them live normal, healthy lives for many more years. The School Association would like to support Mrs Dallas in her difficult challenge, as well as helping the school. Therefore, the money raised will be split between the school and the NHS Trust; benefiting patients whilst they are in hospital.
The Rules - Wear Uniform but Swap for ...
You should wear your school uniform on the day, but you can change up to 3 rules (and no more!) from the list below. In return, we ask for a donation of £2.00 which you can give money directly to your teacher on Friday morning.
1. Crazy hair and/or hair accessories
2. Wear trainers to school
3. Wear brightly coloured odd socks
4. Wear a temporary tattoo
5. Wear a hat
6. Wear nail varnish
7. Wear your (school) jumper or hat back to front
8. Swap ONE item of school uniform for non-school uniform clothing ie
Wear jeans instead of school trousers or
Hoodie instead of school jumper (but we suggest not backwards!) or
Coloured shirt/t-shirt instead of school polo shirt

We will also be holding a competition to "Guess the Nearest Time" that it takes Annie Dallas to complete the 100K Cycle Ride 9th /10th June. There will be an Upper School, Lower School and parent competition at 50p a Guess. The competitions will be running from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th May and children should bring the money in during the week and hand to the school office. There will be an additional opportunity for parents to enter if they are attending our May Day celebrations or on the playground after-school on Friday 26th May.

This will not only be a fundraiser for the school but also a fundraiser for Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust. The money raised will go to benefit patients whilst they are in hospital.

Summer Fayre – 1st July

We are currently planning this year's Summer Fayre and will be asking for help to run the various stalls we have planned. More details will follow shortly but if you are free please put the date in your diary.

Reminder - School Association Film Night - Friday 12th May 2017

Please can you hand your slips in for Film Night by Monday 8th May at the absolute latest. This is so we can cater for numbers and ensure we have enough help on the night.
If you are able to help at this event can you please email
We will probably need more help on the night as we have to adhere to a 1 adult to 8 children ratio.

December 2016 Update
Christmas Fayre
The School Association Committee would like to thank everyone for coming to this year’s Christmas Fayre. We made a massive £1139.99, which will be added to the Totaliser on the Notice Board next to the School Gate.
We would also like to thank the army of volunteers who helped set up, run the stalls on the day, and make mince pies, as without them the fayre would not have been the success it was.
The money raised will help go towards 2 Interactive White Boards that are desperately needed for 2 of the class rooms.
We have more exciting events planned for the New Year so keep an eye out for emails, Facebook posts, and leaflets in book bags.

September 2016 Update
Chesterton School Association – Needs You!!!
This year’s AGM will be held on Monday 19th September in Beech Class at 3.30pm and you are all welcome to come along (children are welcome to stay and play in the classroom).
This year we have several members of the committee stepping down from their roles, some have served for a number of years and some have children in the last year at Chesterton.
The School Association is therefore looking for volunteers to fill these officer roles so that the we can continue to fundraise for Chesterton Primary School.
Last year the School Association raised in excess of £8000 and reinvested the money into the Maple Class Playhouse, interactive screens for each class room, continued development of the outdoor learning areas, subsidising school trips which included visits to Cotswold Wildlife Park and Thinktank Museum for Lower School and Upper School went to the West End to see ‘The Lion King’. It is very important that the Association continues with new parents and new ideas! All of our children benefit from the money raised; we play an essential role in school life.
For all the new parents we have a Facebook page - if you can like this page then we endeavour to keep you informed of events.
If you require any further information about what the roles involve then please email
Kind regards Chesterton School Association.
