Premium Spending
COVID Catch-up Premium spending
As our school receives the coronavirus (COVID-19) Catch-up Premium grant in the academic year 2020 to 2021, we are required to publish details of:
How it is intended that the grant will be spent
At Chesterton, the deployment of funds from the 'Catch-up Premium' grant will be spent in a number of ways to close any attainment gap that exists following the reduced provision (March to July 2020). These include, but are not exclusive to the following:
- Funding for increased support staff hours to provide individual and small group interventions and boosters.
- Increased 'release time' for ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and HSLW (Home School Link Worker) to support wellbeing of pupils and families.
- Paying for staff CPD (both teachers and support staff) in order to increase the effectiveness of planning and catch-up programmes.
- Subscriptions to online resources (e.g. Mathletics/TT Rockstars/SCARF) to support curriculum provision and future periods of Home Learning.
- Payment for after-school tuition to support Year 6 pupils’ preparation for secondary school and KS2 statutory assessments.
How the effect of this expenditure on the educational attainment of those pupils at the school will be assessed
- As part of our whole-school monitoring programme, including assessment information analysis, teaching and learning monitoring and subject scrutinies, any 'ga ps' will be identified, and progress towards them monitored, by the class teachers and Senior Leadership Team.

Pupil Premium
Introduced in April 2011, the aim of the Pupil Premium is to raise achievement
among disadvantaged children. It provides additional funding to schools for children
of low-income families who are eligible for free schools meals, and is designed to
ensure those children benefit from the same educational opportunities as pupils from
wealthier families. There is also a separate Service Premium for children with
parents in the Armed Forces. Every school is legally required to formally report how
this funding has been used and the outcomes that have been achieved.
